Amaia Larrea
“My baskets and my paintings will always be with me, but I feel curious and want to continue learning and experimenting.”
Born in San Sebastián in 1965, Amaia Larrea has always put her creativity into practice; and her artistic growth has been closely linked to the birth and development of her children. It is with them that she has had the chance to discover her great artistic potential.
Her knowledge has been acquired in a self-taught way, from the hand of master craftsmen, and through monographic workshops. Her intuition has also helped her during moments of uncertainty.
Her artistic explosiveness has been channeled through painting and her baskets, and her curiosity has led her to the south of Spain to learn and work with artisan basket makers.
Without fear of being wrong, we can affirm that we are in front of the only basket of palm hearts in Guipúzcoa, a great knowledge that she treasures and that she wishes to share with people.
After completing the studies of Technician in Social Health Care, together with the accumulated experience in the field of Crafts, she is developing activities focused on exercising the memory of the elderly.
One of her wishes in life is to create and work with her hands to be able to express and transmit her emotions.
She would like Zurjole to become a space where each person who arrives could develop their art, their concerns; a place to share knowledge and experiences.
